York has been a hub of power, administration and rail for many many years. A city dominated by the minster but it has much more than the to offer, who can resist a city that is the home of whip-ma-whop-ma-gate? York was always a place we visited to do our Christmas shopping when we lived in that part of the world as it is incredible festive over the holiday period and great shopping.
With its narrow lanes and alley ways (Snickelways) it has an amazing charm but it does get crowded and you may need an early start to avoid the crowds and a wide angle lens is a big advantage.
As one of the countries rail hubs it is easy to get to by rail but the station is not bang in the middle, road connections are good and good park and ride facilities are available and worth looking at as parking can be expensive.
Bettys is always worth a visit for a cuppa and a "fat rascal"
